Interior Design Trends: Pantone Color of the Year

Whether you’re working from home or your office, it never hurts to refresh your surroundings every once in a while. And, with so many great new trends around this season, there’s never been a better time to do it.

Pantone’s Color of the Year is undoubtedly the biggest trend for this year. Since 2000, the Pantone Color Institute has named a Color (or Colors) of the Year to reflect the current zeitgeist. From Cerulean (blue) to Tangerine Tango (red-orange), the Pantone Color Institute picks a shade that reflects a sense of calm or vibrancy, wellbeing or joy in line with what we feel or what we need.

And this year’s sophisticated combination of Illuminating (yellow) with Ultimate Grey is no different. As Pantone Color Institute’s Leatrice Eiseman explains:

“The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude. Practical and rock-solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a color combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted, this is essential to the human spirit.”

It’s hardly surprising that it’s captured the imagination of product designers everywhere!

And, given that the two colours are also very similar to Layrd Design’s branding, we thought it would be the ideal time to do a deep dive on the trend. So, to help inspire your next office update, Bella Elsworth has compiled some of her favourite items from this season’s product ranges.
