Meet the Team: Molly Clayton

Meet Molly, an Interior Designer at Layrd, who has more recently been working on various stadia projects including AFC Bournemouth and Peterborough United FC.
How did you get into interior design, and have you always had a passion for design and art?

I have always loved to be creative along with the desire to help people. When I learned that interior design has such an impact on health and wellbeing it showed me that there was a way to combine both of my passions.

What does a typical day look like for you as an interior designer, and how do you approach a new client brief?

I like to start my day with a morning coffee whilst reading emails, checking in with clients and site progress. My day can include site visits, liaising with contractors, developing drawing packs and project managing. With new clients, I find it key to build a strong relationship, to understand their goals and put a creative spin on their vision.

What inspires your work? How do you choose materials, textures, and colour palettes?

People and the psychology behind spaces. This helps in the initial stages, evaluating the intended use of the space, applying appropriate colour palettes whether it be to aid recovery, create calm, help with focus or bring energy. Different environments call for different finishes, from tactile to durable to hygienic.

What’s been your most challenging project so far, and why?

I’d probably say Ipswich Town’s Training Ground. This was one of my first projects at Layrd and challenged me due to the scale of drawing packs, level of detail, FF&E and technical requirements.

How would you describe your personal design style, and how do you inject personality into a space?

My design style is ever changing to be honest, but one steady focus is to ensure the space is unique to its users, to think outside of the box and create something new.
