The Signature Suite
In summer 2023, Layrd Design completed the full refurbishment of The Signature Suite at Cambridge United Football Club, following our previous work on The Layrd Lounge in 2022.
We partnered once again with Regent Construction Cambridge to bring the project to life, continuing our collaborative relationship with the club as official design partners.
The brief was clear: modernise the space, align it with the design language of The Layrd Lounge, and create a stronger sense of identity. The existing layout worked well, so the focus was on transforming the atmosphere and giving fans a space that felt unified, industrial and proudly connected to the club's story.
We introduced bold paintwork, signage and detailing throughout, bringing a sharper identity to the space. Door graphics were added leading out to the stadium, and the bar was retained but refreshed with new tiling from Parkside Architectural Tiles to better match the updated look and feel.
One of the standout features is the curated shirt wall. Historic kits were selected by the client, mounted on perspex and labelled with key dates to create a timeline of the club’s evolution. It’s an eye-catching addition that connects fans to the club’s history and gives the suite a clear sense of pride and purpose.
An underused corner of the suite was transformed into a new booth seating area, designed and built in collaboration with Bespoke Quality Joinery. The booths fold back to create additional floor space for events, making the area flexible and functional. Mesh backs allow guests to maintain sightlines across the room, a small but thoughtful detail that ensures no one misses key moments on screen.
Layrd Design completely transformed our hospitality lounge and reception area last summer and gave the whole venue a lift. We were quick to request they return this summer to design the remaining lounge. I'm constantly impressed by Will and the team's vision and ability to see something that adds design but also function to a space. More importantly, everyone at the company is incredibly friendly and flexible. I couldn't recommend Layrd Design enough.
