Sheffield United Football Club

The Pavilion Lounge

Layrd delivered a full interior design transformation for the Pavilion Lounge at the iconic Bramall Lane stadium.

Spanning 580 square metres, the space has been reimagined as a premium hospitality venue that caters to both matchday guests and corporate clients. What was once a tired, underutilised area is now a refined, multifunctional environment that enhances the club’s offering while staying rooted in its identity.

Hospitality & Heritage

The brief called for a flexible space with a clear sense of character. The previous layout lacked definition, which made it difficult to serve the diverse demands of modern stadium hospitality.

Our concept introduced a curated journey through the lounge, starting with a bold new entrance and leading through to a striking copper-finished bar and refined seating areas. Carefully balanced branding nods to the club’s legacy without overwhelming the interior.

The material palette mixes rich reds, concrete finishes, warm oak tones and a selection of greys to create an inviting and contemporary feel. A feature wall makes an immediate statement upon entry, while a darkened ceiling, complete with new linear lighting and acoustic timber rafts, adds a sense of atmosphere and provides sound management.

This was a crucial detail to ensure the space feels calm and considered even at full capacity.

Sustainability was central to the specification

Shaw Architecture III carpet tiles, manufactured in Scotland, were chosen for their circular design credentials — Cradle to Cradle certified, Indoor Air Comfort GOLD certified and part of a closed-loop reTURN scheme for reuse or recycling.

Directional light detailing adds rhythm and depth to the space, guiding movement while reinforcing the Pavilion Lounge’s bold architectural language.

Smart zoning throughout allows the Pavilion Lounge to adapt across events. Varied flooring materials and modular furniture configurations create natural divisions within the space — from social, high-energy zones near the bar to more private booth seating for focused conversation.

This flexible planning means the space performs just as well for match-day buzz as it does for midweek meetings or private functions.
