Rush 242
Completed in June 2023, Layrd Design delivered the full interior design and build for Rush 242, a new CrossFit gym located beneath a residential block in Manchester. Starting from a shell unit, the brief was to create a bold, high-impact training space that reflected the energy of the brand and the ethos of its members.
Industrial in spirit, but considered in execution. Function came first, but character was close behind. We leaned into a tough, honest materials palette to give the gym an authentic CrossFit feel. Painted block walls, exposed concrete and OSB panelling work together to create warmth and texture while keeping the space low maintenance and hardwearing.
The layout prioritises flow and usability, with clear sight lines across the space and dedicated zones for lifting, conditioning and mobility. Feature LED strip lighting helps define the different training areas, while also injecting some visual punch.
Rush 242’s brand colours appear throughout the gym, but never shout too loud. We used them to highlight key moments (like wall graphics and subtle accents) helping tie the space back to the community it was built for.
The result is a space that feels personal to the gym’s identity while still appealing to the wider fitness audience that comes through the door.
Every detail works hard, just like the people using it. From the lighting to the layout, everything is built for purpose, performance and the pace of real training.
The space is simple but effective, giving members a place to check in, catch up or take five before getting back to work.
Working with Layrd was a pleasure from first contact to the end of our project. They went above and beyond to ensure that our vision for the space became reality. Gina was a great fit from day one, she did her research into our industry and understood where we wanted to take things.
