Layrd Design were engaged by Thackray to design the new office and lab space for Source Bioscience in Histon, Cambridgeshire in 2022.

The space is set over two floors in an independent building on the business park. We designed the scheme to include four lab spaces on the ground floor, three lab spaces on the first floor, a breakout space, working office area, three private offices, meeting room and board room. The building was previously and open plan office so we had to be mindful of all aspects of the build, such as ventilation, electrics, lighting, air temperature control and many other considerations when designing the conversion into a high tech lab space.

As part of the design we were keen to ensure both lab and office workers felt connected and part of one company culture, this meant the breakout and collaboration spaces were a key part of the scheme and needed to allow all employees to mix and enjoy the space. Flexible and adaptable spaces and furniture were fundamental to this being a successful scheme.
