Instagym
Layrd Design delivered the full interior design, project management and FF&E scheme for Instagym, an independent fitness destination in Stoke Newington. Completed in February 2024, the project reflects the client’s vision for a gym that blends industrial edge with clean, elevated design.
The brief was to create an Instagrammable, premium-feeling environment that appeals to the local community while standing out as a new entrant in a competitive market.
Split across two distinct levels, Instagym offers two very different atmospheres. The ground floor is light, open and wellness-focused, combining calming neutral tones with subtle wood finishes. In contrast, the basement adopts a darker, moodier palette of black, green and navy, setting a tone that is immersive and impactful.
We incorporated a cork feature wall into the design, chosen for its naturally regenerative and renewable qualities. Cork also offers excellent acoustic performance, helping to absorb sound from the gym and minimise disruption to adjacent areas. Throughout the space, we used water-based paints from Little Greene, which are virtually odourless and contain minimal VOCs. Their eco-conscious range reduces solvent emissions, supporting a healthier indoor environment.
Studio spaces are separated from the main gym floor to allow for more focused sessions, while a smoothie bar and social zone offer members a space to relax or meet pre or post-workout.
Premium Technogym equipment spans both levels, from cardio and resistance machines to a fully equipped spin studio upstairs, and a versatile free weights and functional training zone downstairs.
Lighting and planting bring the scheme to life. The spin studio uses immersive, BPM-responsive lighting from LED Snaps to elevate the energy of every session. Throughout the gym, biophilic design elements from Leaflike introduce greenery and warmth, from moss-patterned walls to bespoke planting that enhances both the environment and brand identity.
