East Grinstead Sports Club
Layrd Design completed the interior design, FF&E, fit-out and project management for East Grinstead Sports Club in February 2024. Managed by Acorns Health and Leisure, the gym was ready for an upgrade.
The client’s brief was simple but strategic: transform an outdated facility into a key draw for new members and ensure the gym experience matched the quality of the wider club.
Flooded with natural light and lined with expansive windows, the redesigned space now feels airy, inviting and contemporary.
We introduced planting at varied heights to soften the layout and define different training zones. A wellness-inspired colour palette balances energising accents with grounding neutrals to support focus, motivation and flow.
Every touchpoint has been considered, from the seamless user journey through cardio, strength and functional training areas to a stretching zone right by the entrance.
Bespoke planter lights and zig-zag timber panelling make the most of the height and volume of the space, while immersive LED lighting in the studio responds dynamically to the music’s BPM, creating atmosphere and intensity for group classes.
A light-filled, plant-rich space with immersive lighting and warm finishes is designed to energise, engage and inspire.
Throughout the gym, subtle branding details bring consistency, from warm wood finishes and liquid copper logos to a tonal blue scheme that reflects the sports club’s identity.
We worked primarily with local trades and suppliers, specifying energy-efficient LED lighting to keep the environmental impact low without compromising design.
