The Yard: A Colourful Community Hub Built from Containers

The design brief was all about creating energy and encouraging community. The space includes indoor and outdoor seating, a family-friendly play area, and a dramatic central canopy that connects the containers.

From morning coffees to evening meals, the layout encourages people to gather, linger, and return.

Each container was designed to be unique, tailored to the specific needs of the bar, kitchen, and restaurant areas. The custom canopy was fabricated to perfectly link the site, creating a cohesive yet open feel. The overall result is an uplifting, social space where good food and good company come first.

Food, community and creativity, all under one custom-built canopy!

The Yard reimagines what hospitality can be. With reused shipping containers, family-friendly zones and a design rooted in sustainability, this Ely hotspot invites locals and visitors alike to gather, connect and enjoy.

Bringing together relaxed dining, colourful design, and a strong sense of place.

Sustainability played a central role. All containers were previously used, and existing materials were reused or repurposed where possible. Local trades and suppliers were brought in to reduce transport emissions and support the regional economy, aligning the design ethos with the client’s environmental values.
