Douce Salon
Layrd Design delivered this bespoke interior for Douce, a lifestyle-led salon and café bar based in the heart of Cambridge, completed at the end of 2022.
The project presented an exciting challenge: to take the client’s bold concept and turn it into a fully resolved design that met building regulations, could be delivered on budget, and still captured the original creative vision.
Douce is a distinctive space combining a five-seat salon, café and bar. It offers something entirely new for the city.
We worked closely with the client to ensure the multifunctional layout worked seamlessly across different customer experiences, from daytime coffee culture to evening drinks and appointments.
Designed to reflect Douce’s lifestyle ethos, every detail balances form and function, from the tactile material palette to the compact, dual-service bar.
The palette is rich and tactile, designed to make visitors feel at ease from the moment they arrive. We layered warm, earthy tones , including walnut timber, polished concrete flooring, dusty pinks, deep greens and soft coffee shades – to create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
A standout feature is the curved bar, designed to be compact and practical while still making a statement. It serves both coffee and cocktails with ease and is clad in stainless steel which nods to the converted Airstream that previously housed Douce as a mobile salon just streets away.
The result is a space that feels grounded, refined and entirely unique to its context.
Working with Layrd throughout the last 18 months has not only been enjoyable, but incredibly successful. They turned our ideas and designs to life whilst adapting and enhancing almost every aspect. From bespoke feature walls to bar designs, their friendly team knew our budget and kept within it throughout the whole process, yet still enabled us to bring our vision to life.
