This month, we're celebrating innovation on all fronts, from exploring new trends at Clerkenwell Design Week to hosting our first Design and Construct Roundtable. We marked a major milestone with our fifth birthday and celebrated another award win.

Layrd Design Turns Five: Celebrating Being Bold
Â
Five years ago, Layrd Design's founder, Will Mayes, set out to start a bold and collaborative design studio with a passion for innovation, crafting engaging interiors that transform spaces and inspire users. Since then, we’ve grown to a team of seven in our studio at Cambridge Innovation Parks.
Â
We’re thrilled to be running our third year of Future Spaces, a one-day event packed with cutting-edge innovations, thought-provoking talks and hands-on learning on sustainability and wellbeing within commercial spaces. We’re so proud to have such a creative team and to get involved with so many incredible clients, suppliers and contractors. As we look to the future, we're excited to continue pushing the boundaries of design and creating inspiring spaces for our clients.

Innovative Design and Exciting Workshops: Clerkenwell Design Week
Â
Days two and three of Clerkenwell Design Week were a non-stop exploration of design innovation. We couldn't resist diving into the latest trends at Task Systems, Orangebox and Forma 5. At Actiu, we were particularly impressed with their lounge furniture and soft seating options.
Â
Beyond the products, we got involved with some challenging workshops. On day two, we had a unique opportunity to get hands-on at Shaw Contract's rug tufting workshop in collaboration with Tufting London. Learning the tufting technique gave us a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship that goes into these stunning textiles, and it sparked some creative ideas for upcoming projects.
Â
We also got involved in a fantastic workshop at Solus, creating terrazzo coasters with Crafty Jezebels. This immersive experience allowed us to experiment with different materials and colours, crafting one-of-a-kind pieces that combined functionality with a bold aesthetic.

COCCEC Award Win: SME of the Year
Â
This month, we also celebrated another award achievement, winning SME (Small to Medium Enterprise) of the Year at the Cambridge Oxford Corridor Constructing Excellence Club annual lunch and awards ceremony. COCCEC seeks to showcase examples of organisations that embody best practices. We're excited to be recognised for our creativity, collaboration and sustainability approach.
Â
Design and Construct: Hosting our First Roundtable Event
Â
Collaboration is key at Layrd Design, and that extends beyond our team. This month, we hosted our first Design and Construct Breakfast at Parker's Tavern in Cambridge. This roundtable event brought together individuals in the Design and Construction industry, providing the opportunity to expand networks and learn from others about the current market.
Â
The Design and Construct Breakfast embodies Layrd Design's core values of engagement, collaboration, and pushing design boundaries. Structured as an open conversation rather than a traditional roundtable, the event fostered meaningful connections between participants. We’re excited to host more of these events in the future, providing a platform for continued learning and collaboration within the industry. Stay tuned for details on the next event.
 Â
May has been a month of growth, inspiration, and connection for Layrd Design. We're looking forward to carrying this forward as we continue to push the boundaries of design and create inspiring spaces for our clients. We're grateful for the opportunity to collaborate both within the industry and as a team.
