Our Director, Will Mayes, won the Silver Award for Young Business Person of the Year at the SME Cambridgeshire Business Awards.
In October, the Layrd Design team were thrilled to attend the SME Cambridgeshire Business Awards together, having been nominated for two awards. These events run locally and support industrious, hardworking and enterprising SMEs.
Our Director, Will Mayes, won the Silver Award for Young Business Person of the Year.
Will started the business in 2019 to bring exciting and wellbeing centred design elements to workplace schemes. It’s been an exceptional few years for the whole team since then. We've completed over 20 projects across a wide variety of industries, including office, gym, retail, co-working and hospitality.
Will said, “It's an absolute honour to be recognised for these awards and to celebrate with the whole team together. Winning the Silver Award is an incredible achievement and I owe a big thank you to our wonderful Layrd Design team for their dedication and hard work which has led us here.”
Layrd Design were also nominated for the SME Cambridgeshire Property Business of the Year Award, and were honoured to compete for this award alongside fantastic local property companies.
We were also nominated for an SBID International Design Award for the second year running, following our work on the Armitage Room at Queen’s College, Cambridge. This prestigious event celebrates the best and brightest in interior design, featuring projects from 85 countries around the world.
We were delighted to be shortlisted in the Public Spaces category. The project, which was completed in 2021, saw the complete transformation of the previously dated and disjoined study space into a modern, flexible and inspiring area with bespoke bookcases in keeping with the architecture and history of the room.
Layrd Design managed everything from furniture specification and supply, to the contractors, and interior design scheme.
Director Will Mayes says, “We feel so excited to be nominated alongside some amazing global studios. Even though we didn’t win this award, it’s given us lots of inspiration for upcoming projects.”
