STADIA INTERIOR DESIGN

Layrd completed a comprehensive interior design scheme for Ipswich Town Football Club's Three Lions Lounge in February 2025. The brand-new hospitality offering celebrates the club’s rich heritage while creating a functional destination for fans and corporate visitors alike.

We developed an industrial aesthetic that purposefully exposes the ceiling and steel structural elements, honouring the venue’s architecture. The industrial approach is a deliberate nod to Ipswich’s roots as a major port town. With bespoke joinery, we brought back shipping container-style units, an element that appears in other designed areas of the stadium, reimagined as drink and food bars. With the Three Lions Lounge overlooking the fan zone, maintaining this visual and thematic connection was essential, creating a hospitality space that feels authentically integrated with the matchday experience rather than isolated from it.

The design incorporates pops of the Ipswich Town blue against a neutral palette, with bold strip lighting, electric furniture highlights and clever signage on the drinks bar beer lines ‘From the top corner to the tap, fresh beer in here’. The ground’s flood lights have been creatively reworked into pendant lights providing functional lighting while honouring the club’s history. With thoughtful material use, we’ve created an environment that feels both premium and approachable.

The Three Lions Lounge honours football tradition while creating a contemporary experience for visitors. We’ve developed a versatile space to accommodate matchday hospitality while providing a sophisticated venue for conferences, internal meetings and private hire. Strategic zoning with flooring and furniture choices creates intuitive transitions between areas. Mesh rafts address the acoustic challenges of the space to ensure that, despite the sports-bar feel during peak matchday excitement, conversations remain clear and comfortable.

PROJECT TEAM

"This project gave us the opportunity to explore a new design style that we hadn’t previously done yet at Ipswich Town Football Club. The space, featuring striking steelwork and industrial architectural elements, inspired us to embrace these raw materials rather than conceal them. By keeping the structural elements exposed, we developed a bold, industrial-style sports bar — a dynamic space where fans can transition seamlessly from the stands at Portman Road into a vibrant, modern environment."
