East Grinstead Sports Club
West Sussex

Layrd Design completed the interior design, FF&E, fit-out and project management for East Grinstead Sports Club in February of 2024. East Grinstead Sport Club is a not for profit charity established to provide sporting facilities for their local community and surrounding area.

The client's brief was to update the space and make it more appealing for sports club members to use. The existing gym was outdated and needed to be elevated to feel consistent with the rest of the club. The aim was to make the gym a key feature to increase membership.

Flooded with natural light, the airy space boasts expansive windows and strategically placed greenery at different heights. This, combined with a focus-enhancing colour palette incorporating wellness elements, creates a motivational environment for members of all levels.

BRANDED

Gym interior design with nature wall coverings, linear lights and bespoke wooden panelling.

The equipment integrated throughout the gym was supplied by Matrix Fitness and kits out the cardio zone, weights room and functional space. The user journey starts at the entrance and flows seamlessly throughout the facility, with stretching spaces immediately accessible near the door. Plant partitions naturally define workout zones, offering a sense of privacy.

We used LED Snaps immersive lighting in the studio space for the sound-to-light features that align with music BPM. Bespoke planter lights make use of the high ceilings and were built by our trusted joiners alongside the zig-zag wooden panelling. Subtle nods to the sports club's branding, including liquid copper logos and a blue and neutral colour scheme accented with warm wood finishes, ensure cohesiveness throughout the space.

SUSTAINABLE DESIGN

We used Graphenstone paint across this fitness facility, which contains only trace VOCs and actively purifies the air where used. Minerals such as lime, chalk, clay, silicate and vegetable resins protect the environment as well as the health of users.

We primarily used local trades and suppliers to limit the overall carbon footprint of this project and prioritised energy-efficient LED lighting throughout.
